Dr Michelle Fabienne Bieger is a researcher and software engineer. Whilst teaching at her university as a PhD student, she noticed students using ChatGPT in class, which sparked her interest in AI ethics. With some knowledge of machine learning under her belt due to her PhD research, she is able to understand both the technical details of how modern-day machine learning works, and how it doesn't--how machine learning can often be mere Mechanical Turks and how it can uphold oppressive systems. She has since created a lecture series about AI ethics with digiLab, where she works as a software engineer, and has given numerous talks about AI ethics.
